India celebrated its 73rd Republic Day on January 26, 2022. In 1950, India's constitution was adopted on the same day, which marked India's transition to an independent republic with a democratic governance structure. The Republic Day Parade:

∙       This year's Republic Day parade celebrated India's 75th year of independence by exhibiting the country's military prowess, cultural diversity, and several innovative projects.

Awards given on this historic day:

∙       Assistant Sub Inspector Babu Ram, who was slain combating terrorists in Kashmir, was subsequently given the Ashok Chakra, the country's highest peacetime bravery medal, by President Kovind. The award was accepted on behalf of the officer by his wife.

∙       On Tuesday, the Centre also announced the Padma awards. This year, the President authorized the conferral of 128 Padma awards, including two pair situations where the prize is considered one. There are four Padma Vibhushans, 17 Padma Bhushans, and 107 Padma Shri awards.

∙       A total of 384 gallantry and other military awards for members of the military services and others were approved by President Ram Nath Kovind.

More significant events which occurred:

∙       Shivangi Singh, India's first female Rafale jet pilot, was featured in an Air Force picture. Shivangi is the second woman fighter jet pilot in the IAF portrayal, following Bhawna Kanth, the first female fighter pilot in the IAF set of images.

∙   On the celebration of Republic Day, the Border Security Force (BSF) exchanged sweets with Pakistan Rangers along the International Border in the Rajasthan districts of Sri Ganganagar and Jaisalmer.
